Residencies

Hong Kong

From 2013 to 2017 I took up a 2-month appointment as the Artist-in-Residence at the ISF Academy (International Schools Foundation Academy), Pokfulam, Hong Kong. The primary purposes of the residency were to introduce Diploma level art students to watercolour, to enable them to see and interact at close quarters with an artist at work, to benefit in their own portfolio work from demonstrations and workshop sessions, to be introduced to and instructed in en plein air painting, and to produce work for a major exhibition at the conclusion of the residency.

These residencies were memorable and fulfilling experiences.

The Royal Australian Navy

The time spent afloat and ashore in HMAS Sirius and HMAS Cerberus (outlined in Painting The Navy, in the Galleries section of this website) painting navy life at sea and ashore was a very unique residency. Certainly a less teaching-oriented and more personal interest-oriented opportunity than the Hong Kong residencies. Here my sole duties were to create works that set down my artistic responses to experiences and sights that I saw and experienced about me, as compared to a bald and simple document that recorded events. Samples of the work produced are here to see in the gallery dedicated to the navy paintings.
